Since the early 1900s, Orcutt Hill has served as a rich source of energy and a powerful economic engine for Santa Barbara County.

Today, Pacific Coast Energy Company (PCEC) honors Orcutt Hill's legacy by operating the field with environmental care and a strong commitment to our community.

In addition to being the largest onshore oil field in Santa Barbara County, Orcutt Hill is also a vast natural haven for deer, birds, and other native animal and plant species.

The hilly terrain of this mostly undeveloped site includes a mosaic of dense central maritime chaparral, coastal scrubland, a small eucalyptus grove, and scattered patches of coast live oak woodlands.

Our team at Pacific Coast Energy Company works hard to protect plants and wildlife on the site, cooperating closely with governmental agencies at the local, state and national levels to maintain the highest environmental integrity at Orcutt Hill.

Due to ongoing operations, safety precautions and state regulations, hiking or biking on Orcutt Hill itself is not allowed. However, they have supported  Santa Maria Valley Open Space in its effort to develop a 300-acre open public space and trail system nearby and have donated money for signage for the new Rice Ranch trailheads as well as a trailhead map.
